Children & Young People's Wellbeing -
Reading Borough CEP
Project Type
Wellbeing-Focussed Evaluation / Creative Careers
Date
July 2022 - May 2023
Organisation
Reading Borough Cultural Education Partnership (CEP)
Reading borough CEP’s Children & Young People’s Wellbeing Project engaged with 1,000 children and young people from 10 specially chosen schools across Reading.
Young People worked with 3 local organisations: a theatre, a dance academy, and Reading Football Club, to attend cross-Arts workshop sessions and complete Arts Awards. The project measured the wellbeing impact of Arts engagement in the wake of the pandemic and its impact on children and young peoples’ mental health.

In addition, the project sought to encourage young people to pursue creative subjects and support those whose education was interrupted by the pandemic to complete an Arts qualification outside of the school environment (Arts Award).

As Evaluation Consultant for the project I:
- Advised on the project evaluation strategy throughout the project
- Recommended appropriate wellbeing scores to use to measure children’s / young people's wellbeing
- Carried out statistical T-tests to establish the significance of scoring
- Completed a thematic analysis of transcripts from focus group sessions to feed into project reports

Like Oxfordshire CEP’s Feeling Safe Project this project was funded by Artswork. The below presentation is from a training session I was commissioned to deliver by Artswork for CEP’s from across the country which focussed on the use of Wellbeing scales in projects which work with children and young people.
